Dear <<First Name>>,

Happy New Year! We are back to normal on Sunday mornings, meeting as usual at the school and this Sunday Paul shared with us a reflection on our hopes for 2019 and what God's vision for our church is. You can listen to it again here.

Combating loneliness and grief becomes easier when walking alongside a friend, sharing and showing compassion to each other and coming together in a supportive environment. SOUL – Sharing Our Universal Love – is a group that meets every 4th Tuesday of the month at 3.00 pm. Come in for a chat, or just sit in silence in a home environment with a friend who would understand your tears, insecurities and fears. SOUL is about bringing hospitality and fellowship. For more details contact Rama Isaiah: 07508603870.

Family Matters - Parenting Facilitator Training Course
Family Matters York are running a free three-day course to train parenting course facilitators on Fridays 3, 10, 17 May from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Those who successfully complete the course will be trained and licensed to use the “Time Out for Parents” material from Care for the Family to run parenting courses in their communities. Delegates will need to have good interpersonal skills, a non-judgmental attitude towards people from different backgrounds and the organizational skills to set up a course in their community. References will be required and each applicant will have a short interview. For more details, speak to Penny.

PA Volunteers
We need a bigger team of people who are able to do the PA. We are hoping to arrange some training on using the PA system soon. If you are interested in attending the training and joining a team please let Vicky know.

Children's Team Volunteers
We are looking for people to join our fantastic children's team. If you feel like this could be something that you'd enjoy being a part of, please speak to Helen Aitchison or Heather Heeley. We would love to chat to you about this.

Prayer for a building
Please join us in praying for a building for our church, using this as a guide:
We seek the favour of God for a building being a place of life and praise
In the right location, and of the right size and financially sustainable.
A warm and welcoming home for a worshipping community.
A place where we can offer accessible ministries responding to local needs.

Responding to the Refugee Crisis - York City of Sanctuary

Following the government pledge to resettle Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children in the UK, SASH (Safe and Sound Homes) has been asked by City of York Council (CYC) to help provide safe accommodation and support for young refugees through their Supported Lodgings scheme. They are looking for volunteers in York who can help.

A volunteer host's role will be to work with the young person and SASH to help them settle in York, get into education and learn to live independently. SASH will provide full training, ongoing support and help with expenses. You do not need any special skills to be a volunteer host. However, you need to be able to empathise with the young person’s situation, be sensitive to their circumstances and experiences and be prepared to work closely with SASH and CYC to provide the support that they need

For more information, please email Paul Wordsworth or call York City of Sanctuary on 01904 426 891.

We would really like to see mentoring well established within the church. Mentoring is a form of discipleship, which aims to unlock the God-given potential within another person. In practical terms this involves spending time with someone on a regular basis, doing an activity of your choice (e.g. going for a drink/playing a sport) and getting to know them. You will support and challenge them to develop their skills, discover their passions and grow in their faith. It is a purposeful relationship which encourages someone to take steps in order to go further with God.
If you would like a mentor or like to be a mentor (or both!) see one of the elders. You can of course approach someone yourself about mentoring, but we ask that you make the eldership aware of any mentoring relationships which are established due to the duty of care which we have as a church to the individuals in our congregation.
