Will the City & Town of Batavia be first in NY to merge as a new city?
If we could redraw the map, we would never create the patchwork quilt of local governments we have now in New York. But big changes are underway in Batavia that could set an example for other governments looking to consolidate, says CGR Senior Associate Scott Sittig.

Altmar first among NY villages to dissolve under new law
On Dec. 6, 2011, voters in the Village of Altmar approved an elector-initiated dissolution plan by a vote of 54 to 50. As a result, Altmar is the first village in NY to approve dissolution under a new state law that took effect in March 2010.
