sahag

Remembering John Sahag - 1952 - 2005. It's 8 years on June 15, 2013 since the legendary John Sahag left us to work with the angels.

Here, the one and only, always original John Sahag taking long hair to short, in 1995. A soft bob. No hard edges. Harmonious. Yes, he had fun, but you can read the serious side of this cut (text different under each photo, so Sahag) and you can see more great Sahag photos on www.helenoppenheim.com – HairThen, John Sahag, Press Photos, Playful.

John, you are missed by many and you are still tomorrow's man ...

How long till you felt that you began to truley understand the craft? Posted by adam federico
10,000 hours or about 10 years? In Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, he talks of the 10,000 hour rule. If you were to look at anyone who is considered a “master” in their respective field that they have put in at least 10,000 hours (about 10 years) of practice and experience. What I want to know is that do you agree with his assessment? I’m looking for anecdotes, comments, stories about your experiences, and when did you feel that you finally started coming into your own as a artist/stylist?

Finding Stylists Posted by Kelly Hopkins
I would love advice for finding stylists. I am way understaffed, too many clients not enough staff. I currently have 2 stylists one will be leaving for maternity and staying home with the baby. The other is new to me, While I love him dearly as a person and stylist, he is still very new and I still feel insecure. I have never lost anyone to them being "unhappy". It has always been emotional partings due to husbands being relocated or mothers deciding to stay home. More...

Excel at Men's hair Posted by Andrew Does Hair
I'm hesitant to post on this subject, as I'm actually pretty intimidated by the success of many of the members here, and I feel like the very idea of me sharing my philosophies on men's hair brings with it underlying notions that I believe I'm in any way superior. I don't post this as a challenge to those who disagree with me, but humbly from the perspective of a cosmetologist who struggled as a do everything stylist for years, before breaking 6 figures the first year of declining long hair, color, updos, perms, etc... I think of my career so far, as having being hidden under a rock (probably out of insecurity), cutting hair in Corona, CA, and recently (10 years licensed) realizing that there are other haircutters out there (woah, social media?!). I mention about being hidden under a rock because my philosophies and ideas were formed by my own trial and error, and through absent teachers (books like Good To Great, Purple Cow, and E Myth), NOT by going and taking classes, reading forums, or watching other stylists. Although I wish I had done all that- maybe I could have gotten here sooner... But this is why I feel compelled to share with you all. Take my experiences with a grain of salt, maybe they'll work for you, maybe they won't. More...
