2016 ESIP Winter Meeting News

Frontiers in Earth Science & Big Data

Date: January 6-8, 2016
Venue: The 2016 Winter Meeting will be held at the Wardman Park Marriott. Hotel reservations can be made online now in the ESIP room block at the Marriott Woodley Park. All meeting details are on the meeting page. Transportation details can be found on the Marriott web page
Registration: Early registration (through TODAY, December 21, 2015) is $415 for members and $550 for non-members. After December 21, the registration fee rises to $515 for members and $650 for non-members. A student registration is available for $150. A special one-day attendance is available for $200. US GEO Request for Comment: Common Framework for Earth-Observation Data
As was discussed at the USGEO DMWG session at the ESIP Summer Meeting, the US Group on Earth Observations has developed a set of recommended standards and practices for Earth observation data management. The 
RFI period to submit input on the USGEO Draft Common Framework for Earth-Observation Data is open now through January 15, 2016 SAVE THE DATE: International Data Week, Sept 11-17, 2016, Denver & Call for SciDataCon Sessions
From September 11-17, 2016, data professionals and researchers from all disciplines and from across the globe will convene in Denver, Colorado for International Data Week (IDW). The theme of this landmark event is ‘From Big Data to Open Data: Mobilizing the Data Revolution’. The week will include three events: 
  • SciDataCon 2016- Advancing the Frontiers of Data in Research - Convened by WDS and CODATA, SciDataCon 2016 is a scientific research conference that will advance the frontiers of data in research.

    Call for Sessions: Session proposals are invited for SciDataCon 2016 by 14 February 2016. Details are provided here:

  • 1-Day International Data Forum - This event will be the centre piece of IDW, bringing together international researchers, industrialists, policy makers and educators to discuss the major opportunities and challenges of the data revolution, from ‘Big Data’ to ‘Open Data.’
  • 8th RDA Plenary - The 8th RDA Plenary Meeting offers attendees a unique opportunity to network and collaborate with colleagues and peers in various disciplines, and make concrete progress in technical and social areas on topics related to research data sharing and exchange.

RDA/US is recruiting for the position of Director of Community Development who will work closely with the RDA/US community to develop new efforts, help move efforts to funded projects and provide administrative support and services to its community efforts.
