Job Opportunity: EarthCube
The Use Case Working Group of the NSF-funded EarthCube project  (http://earthcube.org/group/use-cases-wg) is seeking an independent contractor to interview earth scientists on their cyberinfrastructure needs.  The work will involve a brief training session, after which the successful candidate will independently conduct interviews and document results using a structured template. Some collecting and reading supporting documentation is required (e.g. research papers from the scientist), and the person may be asked to participate in Working Group calls or other related EarthCube calls as needed.

Qualifications: the position requires a BSc and some graduate level work (e.g. a current master’s student would be considered, as well as graduates) in either an earth science field, or library science with cross training in an earth science.  Excellent written and oral communications skills required, and attention to detail.  Some previous experience with EarthCube preferred.
  • Rate of Pay:  $17-22/hr depending on qualifications
  • Hours per week: 20-40 negotiable.
  • Start Date:  October 2015.
  • End Date: TBD. Approximately 400 hours of work is available.
Job Opportunities: Interagency Ecological Program
As part of the Interagency Ecological Program (IEP), these positions are hosted by the CA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and will focus on conducting synthesis, analysis and modeling to find the mechanisms that drive responses in the San Francisco Bay Delta Estuary to derive critically needed information for management decisions. These positions will actively participate in collaborative partnerships in the development of conceptual models and understandings and contribute to technical reports, newsletter articles and peer reviewed publications. These are limited term positions but may become permanent.

Experienced scientists with leadership, science, communication, logistics and organizational skills are encouraged to request a duty statement and apply.
