Happy Thanksgiving!  I don't know where the year has gone. It seems like we were just cruising through February and March. Ah well. We took a quick vacation last month and it was a nice break after a very full fall. We have another road trip set for Thanksgiving. What are your plans? Travelling? Family coming to your place? Small low-key celebration? No matter how you celebrate, may it be a blessed time for you and yours.

Refined

Okay, I admit, I left Razed with a bit of cliffhanger-y ending so I'm getting quite a few questions about when Refined will be ready. The short answer - early spring-ish. Here's the long answer - I'm about 2/3 of the way through the heavy edits. By heavy edits, I mean rewrites. Refined was drafted right after Indemnity and the characters have grown and changed significantly through later books. Razed was drafted after Refined, so all that "history" had to be included. Plus some of it is really poorly written. (It's a first draft, I'm allowed.) Once the heavy edits are done, then it will need a few passes to fix up mechanics and style- things like correcting passive voice, making sure adverbs are in the right place (turn off the TV instead of turn the TV off) and taking out overused words. Whew! After that a quick read-thru for continuity, and then it's off to the proofreaders. I'll get sample chapters out as soon as I can. Stay tuned!

Sanction

Sanction is officially contracted! Yay! Greg, the artisitic genius, is working on the cover (Can't wait! Love cover art.) I reread it, and I'm telling you, I think it's the best one I've written. When is it coming out? Good question. 2013 sometime. :-) Probably late summer. Don't worry - we'll get quotes and samples chapters up as quickly as we can. Now why can't you have Sanction first? Because of Matt Bolling. See below.

Getting the Books in Sync

Because of the need to establish the Covenant of Trust series, we released all three of those books before any of the Foundations books. However, the families and characters intersect. At the end of Razed, Mark Bolling will clearly need some legal help, and the only lawyer David Shannon knows... is Chuck Molinsky. Now Chuck is not a family lawyer so he'll have to bring in someone else, but we will get to see him (and Bobbi briefly). Also, fourteen-year-old Jack Molinsky will play a role. (Refined takes place BEFORE Precedent.) So, to summarize... As Refined opens, Doug Bolling is 56. Chuck Molinsky has just turned 58 and Bobbi is 54. Jack and Matt are the same age, 14. Shannon is 13 and Ben is 12. Cass will be 38 and Mark and Julie are 36. (I have a big ole spreadsheet or I couldn't keep them straight :-) ) So Precedent and Sanction are 5 and 6 years after Refined.

Some personal notes...

We mentioned a couple of months ago that we were pursuing adoption. Thank you so much for your prayers. They are being answered! Let me share how - Last month we found a new to us Honda Odyssey that will seat us all AND it was reasonably priced which will allow us to keep the Trail Blazer for a certain 15 year-old. On Monday of this week, the agency received the last of the paperwork to clear the way for us to be licensed. This time next month we should be official. We're excited. The kids are excited. We're thankful to have you on our side.

November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month. Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed. It doesn't generate the attention or marshal the resources that other diseases do, and families often bear it alone. I am amazed at the strength of the families facing this challenge. Pray for them.

Thank you for all do - for reading, reviewing and recommending, for hanging out with me on Facebook and Twitter and for the buckets of encouragement I receive from you.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

A Study Tips e-Book.
If you're a blog reader (and I hope you are) you know every Tuesday we've been running a study tip for a specific book of the Bible. Well, we're about to run out of books to tip, so I'm working on collecting them, editing, formatting and offering them as an e-book. In my spare time. I'll keep you posted on the progress.
