The Pedaler: February 2017

The Pedaler Newsletter

President's Column

Well, we got January under our belts. Hope you’ve been able to enjoy some rides in spite of the capricious weather. Here we go with February and we have some popular rides scheduled including the New Berlin Pie Ride. We begin and end at Brietzke’s and the club will buy a slice of of their wonderful homemade pies for those who stick around afterwards. The next day, the 26th,  you can burn off that pie at the Gruene Latte ride (okay, so you might put on some calories at the coffee shop). Check out the calendar for the complete list of rides and plan to join us.

One of our goals for this year is to make all of  our maps available on the GPX format, up-loadable to iPhones and Androids. We also want to review our routes and maps and consider making some changes. The metro area has grown and changed a lot since many of the maps were made and we need to consider making changes in light of the increased traffic on some of the roads. If you have suggestions for improving existing routes or implementing a new one please let us know.  You can contact our Ride Chairperson, David Levinson at

Reading & Riding 100

The date has been set for this year’s RnR100 - Saturday, September 23rd.  It will again be held at the Canaan Land Ranch.  Please put it on your calendar to either help or be a rider. Gil Hine is the ride director this year. As a reminder, the purpose of this annual club ride is to raise money for our charity partner, Each One Teach One of San Antonio and also to raise money for the operation of the club.

President’s Day Special

In honor of our 1st and 16th presidents we encourage all riders to bring some of their Washingtons and Lincolns ($1s and $5s - yeah, Abe is on the penny and George is on the nickel too but are you really going to be that cheap?) and hand them over to the ride starters on Feb 11th, 12th, 18th & 19th.  We’ll collect those bad boys and turn them over to Each One Teach One. We won't discriminate against the other guys either so if you want to get rid of a Jackson or Hamilton, well, we'll gladly take them too.  Everyone who parts with a least one Hamilton will receive a lovely Wheelmen lapel pin as a thank you.

Now get on out there and ride with us; ya can’t sit around all winter.
