Cyclists in Suits
Monday, March 27th is the annual BikeTexas Cyclists in Suits - Texas’ Bike Lobby Day. Here is an opportunity to go to Austin, meet with your state representative and let your cycling concerns be made known. Ride Chairperson, David Levinson and I will be attending along with Lydia Kelly, the club’s Bicycle Mobility Advisory Committee representative. If you’d like to come with us, please let me know and we can make arrangements to car-pool. Even if you don’t have a political bent or particular agenda to push, meeting your representative and/or staff members and letting them know you are a cyclist and a VOTER can make a difference when they consider future cycling related legislation.
To attend you need to pre-register at:
Route and Map Changes
We have begun the process of redrawing some of the maps which will hopefully make for more enjoyable rides. As the metro area continues to expand, some of the maps need tweaking to reduce the time spent on busier roads.
Woman Hollering Creek - this is one of our most popular rides and it now has new maps on our website. From now on we’ll start at the Ray D. Corbett Middle School at 12000 Ray Corbett Dr , Schertz, TX 78154, (FM 1518 & Lower Seguin Rd). This will prevent us from having to cross Loop 1604 twice.
Very soon more maps will be addressed and its our goal to have GPS files on our website as well. As the technology continues to attain increasing rider acceptance, we think in the long-term, paper maps will become a thing of the past. But for now we’ll continue to offer them. You can help reduce club expenses by printing your own map copies.
If you have a knack for building maps and would be willing to serve your fellow riders in this way please let us or David Levinson know. If we can spread out the process to several people it won’t be a burden on any one person and will get done much faster. Even if you just have an idea for a new or improved ride, please let us know. We want to offer routes the members like to ride.
Contact Cliff Hickel to inquire or sign up for the next class - March 2017.
