As you may be aware, the community surrounding the disused garages site situated between Newcombe Street and Naseby close in Market Harborough have held a desire to establish a community garden and orchard on this land since 2009.
The site was put up for auction in May this year and we understand that the council executive will decide the final fate for this plot of land on the 1st December.
To this effect we have taken the opportunity to prepare a proposal document that outlines the core ideals of what we would like to achieve. We have held two well attended community meetings where these proposals have been discussed.
We understand the difficult financial position that the Council is in, and as such have never sought for the land to be gifted to the community. Instead we are proposing that the community be given the chance to raise funds to purchase the site thus giving the Council a reasonable return for this asset.
We would welcome the opportunity to develop our plans with yourselves to create a valuable community asset.
