Lake Sangchris Hike 

  Join us on a two mile hike on the Deer Run Trail.    of Sangchris Lake State Park.  This peaceful trail    goes through Upland and Flood Plain forest       along the South Fork of the Sangamon River. The    trail is lightly hiked and relatively easy although   there are two short steep sections when it leaves    the flood plain. This area abounds with deer, woodpeckers and forest wildlife. We will start early and be done before the hottest part of the day. 

Please wear long pants because of occasional poison ivy. 
Bring with you: insect repellent, water, and wear sun screen. It's expected to be upper 70's low 80's during the hike.

Directions: From Springfield take I-55 south to Exit 88. At the end of the exit take a right (Palm Road). You will start seeing signs for New City and Sangchris Lake State Park. At ythe first light on Palm Road take a right on to Chatham Road. Take the next left next (New City Road). Take New City Road for about 9 miles. After you pass New City, the road which has been running east will turn south, you will pass the Refuge Ranch on the left and then enter Sangchris Lake State Park. Go across the dam, once pass the dam the second turn on your left will be for the Deer Run Campground. Turn left to enter the campground area. Stay on the main campground road for about 1/2 mile and on the right you will see a sign for the Deer Run Trail and and a parking area for hikers (also has a hunter check station).
Free Solar Workshop

Join Sierra Club, Blue Green Alliance, Elevate Energy, Citizens Utility Board and Illinois Solar Energy Association for a panel discussion on solar energy. 

The workshop is free and open to the public and will be held at the Trutter Center at Lincolnland Community College from 3:00-5:00pm on Thursday, July 26th. (5250 Shepherd Road)
