Swimming New Zealand and the Banana Boat NZ Ocean Swim Series have partnered together to continue promoting fun opportunities to get outdoors and swim! We both have the same goal of helping more people swim more often and creating positive swimming experiences, so we are stoked to continue this partnership for the 2022-23 swimming calendar this summer.

There are plenty of opportunities to get participate in open water swimming this summer. Whether you have set yourself a goal to swim your first open water swim on a Tuesday night or your first triathlon, or you want to have a swim vacation by ticking off the idyllic swims across Aotearoa, these events are awesome to be part of.

29 JANUARY 2023
ORIENTAL BAY, WELLINGTON

Held in conjunction with The Interislander Swim the Lighthouse (fondly known as the Capital Classic in previous years) is set in the heart of the action, starring the famous fountain and Pt Jerningham lighthouse as well as the pine tree-lined Oriental and Freyberg beaches. Your ‘best weekend story’ is guaranteed when you casually mention you swam around the lighthouse, the fountain, or both- is a classical-Wellington brag!

The vibrant event base at Freyberg Beach will keep your support crew entertained with an array of family-friendly activities (think sand-castles, beach games and ice blocks!) and inspiring finish-line celebrations.

11 FEBRUARY 2023
MISSION BAY, AUCKLAND

Held in conjunction with the Interislander Bean Rock Swim is shaping up to be an amazing day of ocean swimming, running along the waterfront, music, food, activities and hopefully that spectacular Auckland sunshine!

This is your chance to swim from the lively beachfront of Mission Bay out and around the largest navigational marker in the Waitemata Harbour – the Bean Rock Lighthouse. Did you know Bean Rock is the only remaining wooden cottage-style lighthouse in New Zealand and only one of a very few in the world? It’s a must swim event!

AKAROA

Bonjour Akaroa! We’re back again in this picturesque seaside village, with an incredible line-up of swims to choose from, starting in the morning this time around to maximise the tranquil conditions in the bay.

The Generation Homes La Grande Swim is essential for your ‘Kiwi Summer Swimming Roadie’. Take on the second endurance distance in the Series, the 5km ‘Wainui to Akaroa; now that’s a reason to fist-pump the sky when you cross that finish line!

BLUE LAKE, ROTORUA

The blue waters and native forest of Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) makes the Generation Homes Legend of the Lake a very special experience for swimmers and spectators at our only fresh water event in the Series. Maximise your day and circumnavigate the lake in our long swim or perhaps take on a swim plus the Amphibian to really challenge yourself and tick the ‘double-header’ box on your goal list.

8 APRIL 2023
MAIN BEACH, MT MAUNGANUI

The soft golden sands and rolling surf is the epitome of a classic Kiwi summer scene, so we’re pumping up this popular event to celebrate everything there is to love about Mt Maunganui’s natural beachfront, island and mountain landscape at the Generation Homes The Mount Swim.

Whether you’re keen on swimming around Rabbit and Leisure Islands in the long swim 2.8km, setting your sights on the Amphibian swim/run event, or a bit of everything, there’s loads happening in the water and on the sand to make sure you have a day full of awesome memories.

We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone out in the water this summer.
