Arnot-Roberts Wines is a joint project of schoolhood friends, Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts. Since founding their winery in 2001, the duo has been one of the most progressive and revolutionary producers on the California landscape. Together with a small group of fellow trailblazers, they have led the way to help redefine the paradigm of what California wine can be and taste like.
While each wine gets its own regime, the general technique includes indegenous fermentations and little or no new wood. Their Chardonnays are fermented in stainless steel and then aged in neutral wood - with a nod to the masters, Dauvissat and Raveneau.
We were lucky to obtain a handful of bottles of two different single vineyard Chardonnays. These are truly unique expressions of the varietal and should not be missed by any California wine aficionados.
Arnot-Roberts Trout Gulch Santa Cruz Chardonnay 2019
Shelf Price $51.99
Sale Price $46.97
96 pts Vinous
The 2019 Chardonnay Trout Gulch is fabulous. Palpable energy and tension drive a core of crushed rocks, lemon confit, mint and white flowers. Intensely saline, tense notes really bristle in this magnificent Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay. The 2019 is naturally very young, but it is stellar. Dried flowers, sage, mint and dried herbs linger.
Arnot-Roberts Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay 2019
Shelf Price $61.99
Sale Price $55.97

The 2019 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict emerges from the original plantings that date back to 1971. Airy and gracious, the S&B is just sublime. Orchard fruit, mint, white flowers and crushed rocks are all beautifully lifted. There is a level of translucency here that is just dazzling. This is a great example of S&B. Don’t miss it.
