Today we have on sale a terrific alternative to Burgundian Chardonnay, Domaine Chavy Chouet’s Aligote. Aligote is a white varietal that is widely planted in Burgundy but gets overshadowed by the incredibly popular Chardonnay. Aligote tends to be a bit leaner than most Burgundian Chardonnays, more of a medium-body white that impresses with its refreshing acidity and drinkability. It is very difficult to find a Burgundian Chardonnay worth drinking under $15, where this wine is an absolute delight!
Domaine Chavy Chouet only has two-hectare planted to Aligote, vines are around sixty years old and are planted on a deep soil with a lot of clay. It produces small golden grapes - very concentrated. This wine is aged ten months in cask and vats.
