The Apostles Fast
(June 15 - 28)
Dear Annunciation Family,

A blessed Apostles Fast to all!

One of the defining characteristics of this fasting period is to spiritually prepare ourselves to better carry out the mission of the Church to love our neighbor -- just as the Apostles prepared themselves to preach the Gospel and change the world with their missionary work after receiving the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.  This is also why the Church calls us to read the Book of Acts from Pascha to Pentecost -- to further inspire and prepare ourselves to carry on their work.

This is the essence of who we are as Orthodox Christians.  As unthinkable as it would be to have a church without the Divine Liturgy, we cannot be the Church without mission, outreach, and works of love that impact our neighborhood and beyond.  As Archbishop Anastasios of Albania would say, a church without missions and outreach is a betrayal of Orthodoxy and the spirit of the Apostles.

My gratitude is overflowing this first week of the Apostles fast, because our Annunciation Church has been answering the call to humbly serve our neighbors with concrete actions of love!
  • On Thursday 10 volunteers from Annunciation distributed over 100 food boxes to our neighbors.  You may sign up for future distributions at
  • In response to the appeal from last Sunday's sermon to help a parishioner who is in need of a kidney transplant, over $10,000 was sent to the church office last week.  The family is in awe of our parish's overwhelming response and is able to move ahead with the surgery which is scheduled to take place in July -- where the mother will be donating her kidney to save her husband's life while they care for their three children.  More information below.
Yesterday we received the good news that Lancaster will be entering the Green Phase on Friday, June 26.  We will be sending an official request to Metropolitan Savas to enter the next phase of opening up the church by Sunday, June 28.  See Metropolis Green Phase Documents and guidelines below.

A blessed Fathers Day to our fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and spiritual fathers!

In the Service of our Lord,
Fr. Hector
Entering the "Green" Phase
Protocol for Attending Services during the Green Phase

Lancaster County enters Green Phase on June 26.

We will be making an official request to Metropolitan Maximos to enter the next stage of opening the church on Sunday, June 28.  An email next week will confirm His Eminence's blessing and our official entry into the green phase a parish.
Who may attend?

Parishioners of Annunciation who DO NOT have the following:

1. Signs or symptoms of any acute illness (COVID or otherwise).
2. Have had contact with COVID-positive persons within 2 weeks.

All age restrictions lifted in the Green Phase :)

Masks must be worn during the services unless you have a valid medical reason.

No more sign-ups before services.

Seating will be assigned in every other pew to help maintain social distancing.

You will notice a
Pew 'A' and Pew 'B' designation for each service.

The first 125 worshippers will be permitted in the Nave and Balcony for each service.

Those who arrive after the 125 person limit is reached will be directed by the ushers to the Philoptochos Hall where a large screen TV and seating will be  set up to follow the live stream.

A priest will come down at the appropriate time to offer Holy Communion to those who are prepared to receive.

We will be returning to our customary practice of receiving Holy Communion and venerating the holy icons.

Services will continue to be live streamed if you cannot be there in person.

We will return to regular Sunday schedule in Green Phase:

8:15 AM Orthros
9:30 AM Liturgy

(Early 7:30 am Liturgy will be suspended)

There will be no coffee fellowship during the summer months.

Please review "The Road Ahead" document above.
By entering the church you are agreeing to worship under the safety guidelines of our Metropolis.
Thank you to all who have responded to the call to help our fellow parishioners in need.  The young father of the family with three children has been receiving 12 hours of dialysis every day for the last year and a half to stay alive.  As a result he has not been able to work and support his family.  His wife has been working overtime at her job to help make ends meet.  In July she will be donating her kidney to save the life of her beloved husband, forcing both parents to be out of work while they recover.  Our church is working with the National Foundation for Transplants to help the family raise $15,000 to pay for the insurance/medical expenses and an additional $15,000 to assist the family with basic living expenses while both parents recover.  Please contact Fr. Hector for more information.
Last month our church sent a $5,000 donation through the altar fund on behalf of the family from a generous donor of our parish.  Last week, another check for $6,000 was sent from other generous donors.  THIS WEEK WE COLLECTED OVER $10,000 SINCE MAKING A PUBLIC APPEAL LAST SUNDAY.  The family is overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and generosity from the Church -- which has allowed God to reveal His light and love during the darkest hour of despair in this family's life.  Thank you and God bless you all!  The surgery is schedule for July as we keep them in our prayers.
