Physics postdoctoral researcher Jyoti Katoch documents the specific ways Ohio State’s Department of Physics has been working to create a welcoming, supportive atmosphere to build the numbers of women in physics at all levels in an article recently published by the American Physical Society (APS) online. |

Statistician Chairs National Committee on Statistics Education
Michelle Everson, associated professor, statistics, will chair the American Statistical Association’s committee to update the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) College Report. The 2005 GAISE Report had significant impact on teaching introductory statistics courses across the country. Everson’s committee will update the report in response to new technologies available to students since 2005, taking into account our increasingly data-centric world. Deb Rumsey, associated professor, statistics, also serves on the committee. |

Molecular Geneticist Awarded Pelotonia Idea Grant
Susan Cole, associate professor, molecular genetics and colleague Ichiro Nakano, associate professor, College of Medicine, received a 2015 Pelotonia Idea Grant for research on stem cells’ role in brain tumor development and spread. This project will take a closer look at the tumor microenvironment and cell communication pathways that support clusters of stem-like cells in an effort to better understand how regulating these pathways could lead to future treatment modalities in glioma. |
