Bang on a Can All-Stars

The School of Music will host the Contemporary Music Festival at 8 p.m. in Weigel Hall Auditorium, 1866 College Rd., on Feb. 29 and March 1. This festival is free and open to the public and is comprised of two concerts.

The Feb. 29 concert will feature Bang on a Can All-Stars, works by Pulitzer Prize-winning composers David Lang and Julia Wolfe and works by Phillip Glass and Michael Gordon. The program will include powerful selections from the All-Stars’ core repertoire that is designed to show off the breadth of talent and virtuosity in the group, which is recognized worldwide for its ultra-dynamic live performances and recordings, freely crossing the boundaries between classical, jazz, rock, world and experimental music. Formed in 1992, the Bang on a Can All-Stars are Ashley Bathgate, cello; Robert Black, bass; Vicky Chow, piano; David Cossin, percussion; Mark Stewart, guitars; and Ken Thomson, clarinets.

On March 1, the festival will continue with works by central Ohio composers and guest composer David Lang, co-founder of Bang on a Can All-Stars and one of the most-performed contemporary American composers . This concert will feature ensembles from the School of Music and special guest ensembles CODE and the Tower Duo.
