Hold Your Nose: Woody Returns

Woody the Titan ArumJoan Leonard, manager, Ohio State’s Biological Sciences Greenhouse, confirms the imminent arrival of another Titan Arum bloom, possibly as early as next Tuesday (5/14). This makes the third, unprecedented year in a row that a Titan, or Corpse Flower, has bloomed in the greenhouse. This year, the original Woody (April 2011) blooms again. If you missed him then, don’t miss him now. Check for daily updates, including public visiting hours, and streaming live video from the greenhouse.
 


ASC Undergraduates Join New Class of Buckeye Leadership Fellows

Ten arts and sciences undergraduate students: Nathan Biller, geography/Spanish; Ilhan Dahir, political science/English; Ryan Ivancic, biology/economics; Kevin Jeng, international studies/French; Balprett Kaur, neuroscience/international development; Adrienne Schertz, strategic communication; Allison Stevens, neuroscience; Austin Stewart, international studies-security & intelligence; and Ellen Tan, neuroscience; are among the new class of 22 Leadership Fellows. Now in its third year, the Buckeye Leadership Fellows Program in the Office of Student Life partners with alumni and community leaders to offer undergraduates outstanding leadership opportunities.
 


Foreign Language Center Launches Free Language App 

Expand Your World AppThe Foreign Language Center has developed a new, free language app, Expand Your World. Users will be able to enjoy a cultural, demographic, economic, and linguistic journey through the 31 languages taught at Ohio State. The app contains a short introductory video, a quiz, and 25 practice audio phrases in each language. This self-contained app is compatible with both iOS and Android tablets and phones.

Melissa Crum Named 2013-14 Schweitzer Fellow

Melissa CrumMelissa Crum, PhD candidate, Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy, was selected a 2013-2014 Columbus-Athens Schweitzer Fellow. During the next year, she will join Schweitzer Fellows across the country to collaboratively lead community-based projects that seek to transform underserved communities.

Goodale Park Fountain Dedication Set

Goodale Park FountainFriends of Goodale Park announces the official dedication of the Goodale Park Fountain—a commissioned public artwork by artist Malcolm Cochran, professor emeritus, Department of Art—on May 19. The ceremony also marks the bestowment of the fountain to the City of Columbus. Dedication ceremonies begin at 1 pm with a pet parade; a plaque recognizing supporters will be unveiled at 2 pm. The dedication is free and open to all. 
 


ASC SAC Invites Your Input

Participate in a World Café conversation, May 29, Fawcett Center, 2-4:30 pm to discuss workplace environment needs. Results will be aggregated and recommendations made to college administration.

New Brand guidelines: Letterhead (digital and print), business cards

Official electronic stationery templates are now available for download through the university brand guidelines site. Printed stationary—Ohio State letterhead, envelopes, and business cards—are now available from UniPrint. Please use up items you already have in stock.
