Ohio State Physicist Leads Work on Six-Institution, Five-Year $12.5 M DoD, MURI Grant

A Department of Defense Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) award supports work at Ohio State and five other universities studying interactions of intense, ultrafast mid-infrared radiation with matter, led by physics Professor Louis DiMauro, project P.I. Other Ohio State collaborators are Professor Pierre Agostini, Cosmin Blaga and Enam Chowdhury.

ASC Greenhouse Manager Co-hosts Plant Professionals Joint Meeting July 8-11

Joan Leonard, ASC greenhouse manager; and Peter Ling, OARDC, co-host first joint meeting of AERGC, the Association of Education and Research Greenhouse Curators; and NCERA, USDA Committee on Controlled Environment Technology and Use. The meeting, “Sustainable Practices for Controlled Environments,” includes field trips to CAPS and OARDC.

Dianne McIntyre

Dance Alumna Wins 2015 Doris Duke Award

Ohio State dance alumna Dianne McIntyre is one of 20 recipients of a Doris Duke Impact Award. Each recipient receives unrestricted/flexible funds and restricted project funds up to $80,000. The award, part of the Doris Duke Performing Artist Awards, was launched in 2011 as a 10-year initiative to empower, invest in and celebrate artists.
Ashley Bauer

ASC Student Named Athlete of the Year

Senior Ashley Bauer was named 2014-15 Ohio State Athlete of the Year on June 17. Bauer, on the women’s rowing team, is an international studies major from New Albany, Ohio. She helped the Buckeyes to their third consecutive NCAA team title this season as Ohio State became the first school in NCAA rowing history to win three national championships in a row.

The ASC Staff Advisory Council hosts its annual Arts and Sciences Staff Appreciation Day, Friday, Aug. 7, 1-3:30 p.m. on the South Oval. Ice Cream Social (Graeter’s) and SuperGames inflatables. RSVP required by Friday, July 31. Questions? Contact Anagha Pathak.

Call for Nominations: Arts and Sciences Alumni Awards

The College of Arts and Sciences seeks nominations for the following Arts and Sciences Alumni Awards presented at the annual awards dinner April 15, 2016:
  • The Distinguished Achievement Award recognizes arts and sciences alumni whose work and contributions have been nationally or internationally recognized as outstanding in their fields. 
  • The Young Alumni Achievement Award recognizes an alumnus/a, 35 years old and younger, demonstrating distinctive achievement in career, civic involvement or both.
  • The Distinguished Service Award honors exemplary service by an alumnus/a 
You may nominate an arts and sciences alumnus/a for one or more of these awards. All nominations due Sept. 15. More information, contact Annie Gordon.

Thunderclap for Pelotonia 15

“Thunderclap,” an online tool, lets a message be heard when you and your friends say it together. Sign up by Aug. 7 and tell the world about the importance and reach of Pelotonia and cancer research at Ohio State. Then, during Pelotonia-ride weekend (Aug. 8-9), your message automatically pushes one time to the social media site you select.

Movie Nights in the Shoe for Pelotonia

Join the Team Buckeye-OSU Athletics Department Peloton for Movie Nights in the ‘Shoe. Watch a blockbuster film from Ohio Stadium’s 50 yard line. Aug. 1: Big Hero 6; Aug. 28: Avengers Age of Ultron. Gates open, 6 p.m.; movie starts, 7:30 p.m. Tickets $5 at gate; proceeds benefit Ohio State cancer research through Pelotonia.
