Opera and Lyric Theatre Presents: Dido & Aeneas
A collaboration of the School of Music and Department of Dance
As one of the first and perhaps greatest of English operas, Dido & Aeneas offers a stunning combination of music drama inseparably entwined with vibrant dance and well-crafted choral writing. Virgil's fateful story of the abandoned Queen of Carthage, versified by the poet Tate, culminates here in Purcell's masterful "When I Am Laid in Earth," one of the most moving and beloved arias in all of opera.
