Astronomers’ Discovery Expands Search for Earth-like Planets
 Four international research teams, led by Ohio State Astronomy Professor Andrew Gould, recently discovered a planet in a binary star system 3,000 light-years from Earth. Astronomy Professor Scott Gaudi, who was part of the team, said, "This expands our ideas of where Earth-like — and even potentially habitable planets — can form and how to find them, as half the stars in the galaxy are in binary systems." Until now, astronomers were uncertain that Earth-like planets in Earth-like orbits could even form in these systems. The discovery is published in the July 4 issue of the journal Science.

Designer Receives Service Design Award
Scott Shim, associate professor, design, received a Service Design Award, Professional Notable category, from the Core77 Design Awards 2014 program. Shim’s project, “Your Pizza, Your Way,” offers a customizable service design intended to reduce customer anxiety and confusion in “made-to-order” restaurants. Core77 Design Awards celebrates the richness of the design profession and its practitioners.
PhD Language Candidate Receives CLLC Technology Certificate
 The Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures recently awarded the CLLC Technology Certificate to Stephen (Kip) Tobin, a PhD candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Tobin created a mind-mapping project for his students in Spanish 2520: Latin American Literature (In translation): Fiction and Realities.

Ohio State and Royal Shakespeare Company present The Tempest
Kelly Hunter adapts and directs The Tempest using a series of drama-based games developed to help combat the challenges of autism. This show is a co-production between Ohio State and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Performed by six actors, three from Ohio State and three from the UK, The Tempest comes to Columbus July 16-20, with performances at the Wexner Center for the Arts and WOSU@COSI. It is intended for ages 8-16.
World Cup Fever Exhibit
 The Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures joins in on World Cup fever with an exhibit on view now in the Global Gallery (Hagerty Hall lobby) until August 21. This exhibit features photos of the top-seeded teams and their loyal fans from around the world.
