New Study Examines Improving Visual Contrast Sensitivity Function

Fang Hou, post-doctoral researcher and lead author;  Zhong-Lin Lu, professor, psychology; director, Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Brain Imaging (CCBBI), and corresponding author, have published a new study examining a method of improving efficiency and precision of contrast sensitivity function (CSF), in the July issue of Journal of Vision. The CSF, which describes visual sensitivity to narrow-band stimuli of different spatial frequencies, provides a comprehensive measure of the visual system over a wide range of spatial frequencies in both normal and abnormal vision.

Herrmann to Represent Faculty on BOT Committee

Richard Herrmann, professor and chair, political science, has been named to serve a two-year term on Ohio State’s Board of Trustees’ Academic Affairs and Student Life Committee. Herrmann replaces Janet Box-Steffensmeier, divisional dean of social and behavioral sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, whose two-year term ended in June.

Gates Foundation Program Officer Talks about Improving Childhood Health

Brad Zamft, program officer, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery & Translational Sciences Division, gives a broad overview of the Gates Foundation, how metrics and projects are defined and discusses identifying and investing in technologies to improve childhood health, July 23, 10 a.m., E001 Scott Lab.

Arts and Sciences Staff Appreciation Day

The ASC Staff Advisory Council hosts its annual Arts and Sciences Staff Appreciation Day, Friday, Aug. 7, 1-3:30 p.m. on the South Oval. Ice Cream Social (Graeter’s) and SuperGames inflatables.
