New Study Examines Improving Visual Contrast Sensitivity Function

Fang Hou, post-doctoral researcher and lead author;  Zhong-Lin Lu, professor, psychology; director, Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Brain Imaging (CCBBI), and corresponding author, have published a new study examining a method of improving efficiency and precision of contrast sensitivity function (CSF), in the July issue of Journal of Vision. The CSF, which describes visual sensitivity to narrow-band stimuli of different spatial frequencies, provides a comprehensive measure of the visual system over a wide range of spatial frequencies in both normal and abnormal vision.

Herrmann to Represent Faculty on BOT Committee

Richard Herrmann, professor and chair, political science, has been named to serve a two-year term on Ohio State’s Board of Trustees’ Academic Affairs and Student Life Committee. Herrmann replaces Janet Box-Steffensmeier, divisional dean of social and behavioral sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, whose two-year term ended in June. 


Sexual Harassment Policy Training

The Office of Human Resources is offering Sexual Harassment Policy Basics, a workshop dedicated to university policies and procedures related to sexual harassment, July 29, 9:30-11 a.m. or Sept. 2, 9-10:30 a.m. This training opportunity is open to all Ohio State employees. Gates Foundation Program Officer Talks about Improving Childhood Health

Brad Zamft, program officer, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery & Translational Sciences Division, gives a broad overview of the Gates Foundation, how metrics and projects are defined and discusses identifying and investing in technologies to improve childhood health, July 23, 10 a.m., E001 Scott Lab.
