* * *
What: Protest & March (will follow protest)
When: Wednesday February 29, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Where: Begins at Bank of America (250 Main Street, Huntington)
[HUNTINGTON, NY] Occupy Huntington will march in Huntington Village on February 29 to protest the influence of the American Legislative Exchange Council on Congress.
The American Legislative Exchange Council writes law at the behest of major corporations and shepherds the legislation through Congress. The roster of companies that employ ALEC includes ExxonMobil, Bank of America, BP, Monsanto, Pfizer, and Wal-Mart. Occupy groups around the country will be holding direct actions on the 29th, beginning the re-emergence of the movement after a winter of smaller actions in the face of cold weather and the police disruption of encampments.
The march will begin in front of the Bank of America building on Main Street in Huntington Village and will make a circuit around the village, stopping at other major banks. Occupy Huntington is part of a newly established Occupy Long Island, now holding regular General Assemblies at rotating spots around Long Island. The coming months will see direct actions coordinating groups from around the island as well as actions by individual groups in towns from the Queens border to Montauk.
