In Calgary: The Slight Return
Jennifer Cherniack and David LaRiviere
Cherniack’s IMHO (In My Humble Opinion) is a multi-media installation that challenges traditional art historical narratives through playful personal inflection. LaRiviere’s The Art Gallery is series of eight images and a single video installation that imagine somewhat famous artworks, now very much the objects of some variety of art world in-joke, hanging in a parallel universe art gallery. The Slight Return runs at the Truck Gallery in Calgary from April 27, 2012 through to May 24, 2012 with an opening reception on Friday, April 27 at 8:00 PM. Visit the Truck Gallery site for more information.

In Edmonton: PileDriver
David Janzen
Deeply influenced by the industrial growth of this place, Janzen makes pictures that reflect an ongoing transformation of the area. Often set against a vapour-filled atmosphere, his paintings teeter between realistic documentation and science fiction, sometimes serene, often foreboding. This exhibition runs concurrently with the Spring Group Show featuring new work by Chris Flodberg at Peter Robertson Gallery in Edmonton from April 21-May 8 with a reception during Gallery Walk on Saturday, April 21 from 2-4 pm. Visit the Robertson site for more information.

William G. Prettie and Gerry Yaum
Visual Arts Alberta is proud to host an exhibition of works by artist William G. Prettie (Gallery A) and photographer Gerry Yaum (Gallery B). Prettie's works investigates text as image and image as metaphor, to refashion the way one looks at the familiar. Yaum's photographs personalize his subjects: nameless sex workers, humanizes statistics, and gives voice to the need for change. The show runs until May 26th. See our hours of operation below.
