Opportunites from the Community...
In Calgary: Slate Art Group is founded on the idea that artists, both emerging and professional, who work outside the regular confines of Calgary's present art scene should have a place to sell their work, and gather to meet others working in their field. Slate Art Group will become an active member in the local Calgary art scene of the summer of 2013. Submit your work for consideration to be part of this exhibiting opportunity.
Loads of details and FAQs can be found on the Facebook event page here.

All submissions must be sent by March 29, 2013. Confirmation emails will be sent out on March 30. Submissions and further questions are to be sent to:

Art around Alberta this week...
In St. Albert:
Fáilte Roimh tOileán Mór
Barbara Shore, Eleanor Lowden Pidgeon, Bella Totino and Verne Busby

The VASA Gallery in St. Albert hosts Fáilte Roimh tOileán Mór (Welcome to Bere Island) until March 30, 2013.

Four artists, sight unseen, ventured to Bere Island, Ireland to create their own artist residency for the month of September 2012. What the artists discovered was a magical island with stunning landscape that still holds the secrets of previous centuries. The elements of the rugged landscape juxtaposed with brilliant green pastural land, the constant changing of light and colour and winds off the mighty atlantic fuelled creativity.

This exhibition represents a melding of the charm of historic Ireland with the current perception of four Alberta artists. You are invited to enjoy their vision in paint and video. More is available online.

Please join the artists for a reception on Saturday March 9 from 1 to 4 pm. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Thursday until 8 pm.
