Waves Under My Eyelids, Series Alba'hian, Joana Choumali (2019)

If you're reading this then that means you survived the whirlwind that was 2020 and is something of which to be very proud. I spent more of my time off than I'd care to admit, scrolling through everyone's goals and resolutions on social media. In doing so, I happened to note less of the 'new year, new me’ posts that usually plague the internet this time of year. Can't say that I'm sad to see them go as I've generally found that mantra to be a bit perplexing. Not to say we shouldn't be growing or evolving, but the idea that you're going to just be different when the clock strikes 12 just feels like a lot of pressure to put on yourself.

I don't do resolutions because if I have the willpower to wait until the first of the year to make the change, chances are it wasn't going to stick anyway. However, I do select a word of intention. A kind of compass through which to guide my decisions and my learning throughout the year. For 2021, my word is Connection. For me, that means reestablishing the connection between my mind, body, and spirit so that I may show up better for myself, but also for those who I am in connection with.

Personally, the last year and a half has been full of some major transitions. I moved back to the US after 18 months living in Europe, I quit my job, I started my own business, and I moved from Denver to Houston. While very necessary, it was a lot of change very fast in combination with the ever-changing landscape of 2020. All of which left me feeling a bit disoriented. Now is the time for me to reconnect to myself and get a better sense of who I am as it relate to these new spaces. I can say for certain that you're getting the same me, just more of me. A me that is bolder, more vibrant, and more confident. I normally share my word with a few close friends as one way to show my commitment, but I decided to go big this year and share it with all of you. I hope that in addition to whatever you've claimed for yourself, you're able to find joy and prosperity in spite of whatever challenges you may encounter.

This quote has been on my mind the last few weeks and it felt appropriate for the first newsletter of the year. So now that 2021 is officially here, what is something you're going to do in order to thrive?
