New Scholars and COVID-19 Safe Classrooms

September has been a truly eventful month at Yspaniola! From raising funds that enabled us to design and implement COVID-safe classroom environments, to welcoming our newest Yspaniola University Scholar, we could not be more grateful for our international community's support!

Welcome, Fedrina!

This month, we were delighted to welcome Fedrina, Yspaniola's 10th University Scholar!

We are excited about our new partnership with Humberstone International Inc., whose generous, multi-year commitment to our University Scholarship Program, made it possible for us to offer Fedrina a scholarship, studying to be a nurse.

COVID-safe Literacy Classrooms

This past month, our teaching team has been working diligently to design a new classroom formats for literacy learning. To enable students to continue learning in these difficult times, we have designed small-group, socially-distanced classrooms to facilitate safe and exciting learning. We are so grateful for our amazing team's flexible and positive approach to making this happen!

The formation of these classes required thorough planning. Our staff worked to organize our students from classes of twenty into breakout groups of four to six with similar learning needs, and classes began on September 21st. Students and staff all wear masks, wash their hands regularly, and students have their temperature taken and hands sanitized upon entry to the classroom.

A Little Goes a Long Way: Match Campaign Success!

Our classes this fall could not have launched without your help! Our "Little by Little" match campaign in partnership with GlobalGiving this month raised $3,000 for cleaning supplies, masks, thermometers and the expansion of our food program to include dry food care packages to support families through December. We are immensely grateful to those who donated and made learning possible!
