Youth Meeting - Faroe Islands
"Our Everyday Conflicts"
I just arrived back from my Youth Meeting in the Faroe Islands. This trip was very special because I got to reunite with two of the Faroese delegates from my Brazilian Village in 2010. I arrived a week early to stay with my friend, Silja, who lives in the capital, Torshavn. She and her family took me sightseeing, shopping, and walking around the beautiful hills in the Faroe Islands. Hiking in the natural environment and breathing in the fresh air on the mountains was a lovely once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The countries that were present at my camp were Germany, Lithuania, Estonia, Greece, Norway, Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Hong Kong, Faroe Islands, Hungary, and USA. The theme of our camp was "Our Everyday Conflicts." This referred to the way that each and every one of us deals with the conflicts that are present in our daily lives. The ways that one can react to conflict can typically be categorized in to three categories: hitting, running, or standing. We as a camp focused our activities on ways to peacefully resolve conflicts and work to understand each other better through these resolutions. Therefore, we had many thought-provoking and interesting conversations throughout the camp.
My favorite memory from the camp was during my last day. The German delegate, the Austrian delegate, the Greek delegate, and I took a ferry and went hiking on a beautiful island called Nólsoy and made it to the top of the mountain. We had to climb many rocks and walk some steep paths but we made it in the end! It was the most memorable experience with some of the other delegates that I will remember for the rest of my life!
