Loughborough Junction Action Group

Welcome to LJAG's newsletter - October 2012

We'll be using this space to let you know what we've been up to, what's coming up over the next month or so and what else is happening in Loughborough Junction. If you'd like to include something in our newsletter please email ljactiongroup@gmail.com and we'll see what we can do.

Recently we've been busy working on a Masterplan for the area, putting up mosaics under Cambria Bridge, and planning a film and literature night at the Whirled Cinema next week, as well as continuing with our greening and young people's projects.

We do hope that you enjoy reading this newsletter. Any feedback is of course welcome. And please do join us on the first Tuesday of November, from 7.30pm at the Cambria pub on Kemerton Road, where we'll be discussing our plans for the future. We'd love to hear your ideas.

Cambria Road mosaics

Have you seen the lovely mosaics under Cambria Bridge? Created by local school children from St Saviour’s, Jessop and Michael Tippett schools and the artist Tamara Froud the mosaics are the first part of the pilot project for the 7 Bridges Project - the Cambrian Explosion, which will consist of a collection of fossils attached to the bridge. The 7 Bridges Project aims to regenerate the bridges and make them into a feature of the area. More artworks will be added soon.

The Masterplan

We are working with Lambeth Council to develop a masterplan which could attract funding and lead to major improvements in the Loughborough Junction area. The masterplan will be a plan intended to guide the physical improvement of the area, bringing together the vision, aspirations, ideas, suggestions and intentions that people have for the neighbourhood.

The plan can include ideas for new paving, public squares, better lighting, improved walking and cycle routes, regeneration to the (many!) bridges, building developments and community facilities.

We believe that the masterplan must retain community character, so are keen that  people who live and work in the area have a say to share their ideas. A series of events will take place in association with DSDHA (the company selected to deliver the masterplan document). We will keep you posted!

The first of these events will be about a pilot project to deliver greenway routes, and road and cycle improvements in Cambria Road. Come and see us under Cambria Bridge on Saturday 10 November (11am-3pm) or Wednesday 14 November (3pm-7.30pm) to find out about plans for Cambria Road and share your ideas.

Volunteer web developer needed - we are looking for a front end HTML developer to help us out for a day on a mapping website we’ve been working on with some local people. Contact ljactiongroup@gmail.com if you are able to help.
Transport campaign protesters

Thameslink transport campaign

Thanks to everyone who got involved with our transport campaign over the summer. In the end we had almost 1500 signatures to send on to the Department for Transport from people who want the service to continue past Blackfriars from Loughborough Junction. Many of these people have joined LJAG and we look forward to working with you in the future.

The fiasco with the West Coast Line franchise has delayed all upcoming franchise negotiations including the First Capital Connect Thameslink Service - read more here. But we are on the case and we will keep you informed.
Brixton Energy in Loughborough Junction

Invest in solar energy in Loughborough Junction

A solar energy generating project is to build its second project in Loughborough Junction, this time the roofs of Styles Gardens on the Loughborough Estate.  Brixton Energy creates co-operatively owned renewable energy projects and is the UK’s first inner city community owned solar energy project. The first phase exceeded solar energy production by a quarter. Now the project is embarking on phase 2 and is looking for investors.

Find out more. But remember this is an investment so it is important investors do their own research; this is not an LJAG endorsement.
