  It's Election Day!

The Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) is reminding everyone that today is the federal election and as they say the best way to preserve democracy is to exercise it!  Please take some time to get out and vote.  Perhaps offer a ride to the polling station for a neighbour if you are able.

Check out our blog for a response from the Liberal party regarding the top rural concerns in the federal election, that ROI had sent out to each of the four main parties.
The Agenda with Steve Paikin

On October 9, 2015, Rural Ontario Institute board member, Chris White appeared as a guest panelist on the TVO program The Agenda with Steve Paikin, looking at the top priorities of Ontario voters for the next federal government.  Chris represented a rural perspective on this panel, along with panelists Allan O’Dette, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce; Jeff Lehman, Mayor of Barrie; Susan Eng, CARP.

Leadership Development

Class 15 of the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program (AALP) has been busy putting together plans for the 11th AALP Dream Auction in support of Class 16, being held February 20, 2016 at the Delta Guelph Hotel. This fundraising event brings together supporters, sponsors, alumni and current class members to raise money in support of agriculture leadership training in Ontario.

In addition to live and silent auctions on February 20, 2016, a new online auction component has been added to the program. As a warm up to the Gala event in February, the online auction will run November 22 to December 6, 2015 and will feature unique and once in a lifetime opportunities up for sale. Click here for more information.
Call for Expression of Interest

Are you in a rural community doing an evaluation project or community benchmarking report?  Are you willing to share your experience with others?

The Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) is looking to collaborate with community partners who are themselves trying to measure broader community impacts of a project or who are undertaking an effort to report on indicators of community well-being. The community would benefit by receiving some additional financial resources and ROI would in return expect to document and share the community’s lessons learned and good practices with other rural stakeholders. Only a limited number of local projects can be selected as case studies or demonstration projects and they would need to be undertaken in 2016 and have a municipality involved. These partnerships would become part of the Measuring Rural Community Vitality initiative which is aimed at improving understanding of effective practices for quantifying rural civic engagement, social capital and community well-being. For more information on submitting an Expression of Interest and to see if your community’s project or program is a good fit, click here.
