Irreverend James and the Critical Mass Choir Sign with Bonsound

The secular, subversive gospel band signs with booking agency Bonsound, joining impressive roster that includes Malajube, Radio Radio, Chinatown and Random Recipe

Montreal, December 6, 2011- On the heals of two barn-burning performances at the M for Montreal festival and the SMIM conference, subversive gospel band Irreverend James and the Critical Mass Choir have signed a deal with booking agency Bonsound. Bonsound will handle booking for the band for Quebec and the rest of Canada. Irreverend James joins an impressive roster at Bonsound that includes Malajube, Radio Radio, Chinatown, Random Recipe and others:

Irreverend James:

I will join any club that will have me, as it is a clear sign of their impeccable taste in music and sound judgement. Also, this is the music industry, fool. There are billions of dollars floating around, billions! Bonsound, I’m told, will get those dollars to me and get me to those dollars. I approve of this message”
- The Profit (Lead Singer for Irreverend James, Clueless Musician)

Signing with Bonsound caps off what has been a very good year for Irreverend James, which saw them release their deput EP, acquire a manager (Dave Cool), get featured on the front page of the Montreal Gazette, and showcase at the SMIM music conference and M for Montreal Festival. The band will perform one last time in 2011 on Saturday, December 17 at the Ukrainian Federation (5213 Rue Hutchison), with Choeur Maha, a 35-member all-female choir.

The two groups will perform and collaborate on several songs, with Maha adding their voices to the Irreverend James set, and Irreverend James lending their musical talents to the women’s choral group. The concert is a co-presentation of CKUT Radio (90.3FM), and is sponsored by St-Ambroise Beer.

About Irreverend James and the Critical Mass Choir:

Irreverend James and the Critical Mass Choir are a secular, rabble-rousing, queer-positive, feminist, subversive gospel music band. The spirit and verve of old-time Gospel music fit with a modern script.

The band offers the joyful & spiritually rewarding experience of Gospel music, with the crescendos, call-and-answer and outright jubilation you'd find in a 1940's small wooden Mississippi-delta church. Only secular. And not in Mississippi. And definitely not in the 1940s.
