Happy National Stress Management Day

November 2nd as National Stress Awareness Day, and at Happy Brain Science we are celebrating by sharing our take on four of the Top 10 Stress Management Tips from the International Stress Management Association ISMA to help you lower stress and boost happiness in the workplace:

  1. Put Yourself First: Eat & drink healthily and schedule regular physical activity that you enjoy. 
     
  2. Prioritize Tasks: Choose your top 3 most important tasks each morning and make them your priority. Reschedule, renegotiate your commitments or delegate – you can make it happen! 
     
  3. Make Time to Relax and Mentally Unwind: Relaxation, breathing & meditation exercises have been proven to be effective in reducing stress & anxiety. They are ideal ways to switch off AND they boost your immune system. Just a few minutes a day will pay huge dividends. 

Happy Brain Tip: Identify Moderate Stress and Reframe It


Research and data are showing us that not all stress is bad stress--psychologists use the term eustress to describe that positive and motivating kind of stress that pushes you and your colleagues to your best work.

Typically when we are stressed at work, we stress about our stress, which compounds it and creates excess stress. Excess stress can trigger a stronger “freeze, flight, or fight” response, which can limit your brain’s ability to find solutions. Rather than stressing about your stress, try instead to just notice it and then make a choice about how you are going to effectively respond.
