January Stakeholder Meeting - Snow Course Demonstration

A snow course is a permanent site where manual measurements of snow depth and snow water equivalent are taken by trained observers.  Data collected at these sites provide important information related to forecasting water supplies among other indicators.  On Friday, January 31st, the Council will be hosting a demonstration to show how snow courses are set up, sampled, and evaluated.  Details of the meeting are forthcoming, but we are hoping to conduct the demonstration in the vicinity of Rifle.  Look for a special invitation to this event sometime in January.

Officially a Nonprofit

The Council filed as a Colorado nonprofit entity on December 17th while the new Board of Directors held its first meeting the following day!  Board Directors and Officers were elected as follows:
  • George Wear, Chair and President
  • Donna Gray, Vice President
  • Angie Fowler, Secretary
  • Hannah Klausman, Treasurer
  • Morgan Hill, Director
  • Nicole Garrimone-Campagne, Director
  • Patrick McCarty, Director
Other parties interested in serving on the Board are encouraged to inquire.  The composition of the Board is intended to reflect the geographic and sector diversity of the watershed, including residents, landowners, agricultural users, recreational users, industrial users, governments/agencies (federal, state, and local), water treatment/suppliers, etc.

Grant Funding from Garfield County

At its October 2013 meeting, the Garfield Board of County Commissioners  approved the Council's request for funding to assist with 2014 activities.  This generous grant in the amount of $25,000 was awarded as match for supplemental funding raised from other local and regional stakeholders.  Ever dollar raised will be matched by the County up to $25,000.  Please consider a donation to the Council to help support our important work into the new year!
