Our workforce is our biggest asset, recruitment and retention of our future primary care workforce must be high priority for us all. Please take 5 minutes to read and cascade to your colleagues.
Clinical Lead & Physician Associate Ambassador
We are very pleased to be welcoming Nicola Moerdyk, Clinical Lead and Emma Lomas, Physician Associate Ambassador to the Training Hub team.
Nicola Moerdyk - Clinical Lead
I am delighted to have been appointed Clinical Lead for the C&W Training Hub. I am an energised, proactive GP with a passion for primary care. I am passionate about the development and retention of doctors and health care professionals. I’m looking forward to supporting recruitment and retention of the primary care workforce within Coventry and Warwickshire, developing and driving forward workstreams, and supporting placement quality and capacity withing the work force. I intend to provide high quality clinical leadership within CWTH and beyond.
My experience is wide-ranging with a background in Paediatrics and over 15 years in general practice as a sessional GP, partner and locum. I am a GP Appraiser and a free-lance medical writer. My clinical interests include Women’s Health.

Away from work, I enjoy keeping up with my two sons and indulging my other passions of gardening, period property renovation and travel.

Regards,
Nicola
Emma Lomas - Physician Associate Ambassador
Hello,

I would like to introduce myself as the PA Ambassador for Coventry and Warwickshire. Working with the training hub and individual practices, GP mentors and PAs; I will be supporting the PA role from student placement through to PAs working in general practice (new graduate and experienced PAs) across the region.

Having nearly 12 years experience as a PA in general practice, 4 years lecturing and mentoring at Birmingham University and as GP placement lead and mentor, I am looking forward to working with those at the training hub to continue to promote, support and integrate the role along with my fellow PAs within the multidisciplinary team of Primary Care.

*NEW* NHS Cervical Screening Update

Electronic (e-)requesting to replace paper forms

The regional HPV laboratory at Royal Wolverhampton Trust (RWT) can now accept cervical screening sample requests electronically, via the web-based ICE application. This is for both EMIS and SystmOne users.

Electronic requesting is a national requirement and aims at improving sample turnaround times whilst reducing errors with data input. Going forward, paper forms will be largely phased out and should only be used in exceptional circumstances.

If you are not already signed up, we recommend that you use e-requesting for all your cervical screening sample requesting.
Set-up guides for practice managers, as well as user guides and a training video for end users will be sent to your practice. For any questions or advice, please contact: BCPS IT Support on:
BCPS.PathologyIT@nhs.net.

Cervical Screening Best Practice Poster
It is important that failsafe and safety checks are done when a patient comes into practice for their Cervical Screening Test. This will ensure that the sample is accepted at the laboratory and will reduce the chance of any errors, resulting in screening safety incidents, or harm.

The poster contains important failsafe checks taken from the
Cervical Sample Taker Training Guide and the Sample Taker Acceptance Policy. Some further best practice has been identified on the back of several Primary Care screening safety incidents and included into the poster.

We recommend that this poster is shared with colleagues and displayed on the walls to ensure ongoing best practice. Click here for the poster.
