Volunteers Needed for
‘Just a Warm Sleep’

This winter, Winnipeg lost a community member to the cold – and that was heartbreaking.  1JustCity felt it needed to respond.  As the people who visit our drop-ins during the day told us about the cold, brutal nights outside – it didn’t feel right to lock our doors at night.  1JustCity is pleased to announce that ‘Just a Warm Sleep’ is opening Thursday, January 26th until Friday, March 31st with support from Bear Paw Security, The Salvation Army, and in partnership with Augustine United Church.  ‘Just a Warm Sleep’ is in need of volunteers.  Read more . . .

ZEEBU Youth Retreat (Grade 7-12) will be taking place on the Louis Riel long weekend – February 18-20, 2017 at Neepawa United Church.  This is a great opportunity for young people to come together to explore a theme in small groups and large, giving individuals opportunities to discover and deepen their faith in God in the comfort and safety of their peers, young adult mentors and chaplains.  For more information, please contact Twila MacNair at or 204-233-8911 ext. 227.

Renewal of Appointments

Several pastoral Charges have been inquiring about timelines related to the renewal of appointments for Ministry Personnel in ongoing pastoral relationships. For appointments ending June 30, 2017, new appointments (renewals) must be approved by the Pastoral Charge governing body (Board/Council/Leadership Team) by March 31, 2017 (90 days before the end of appointment). The forms related to the renewal of appointments (and even the processes) depend on a number of factors so please see the memo below in Ministry & Employment FAQs - Renewing Appointments.
Forms should then be signed and sent to the Conference Office as the Conference Settlement Commission now processes most pastoral relations matters instead of the presbyteries. Any questions can be directed to the Conference Personnel Minister, Judy Hare ( or any members of the Conference Settlement Commission.

Changes in the Pastoral Relations Processes in the Conference of Manitoba & Northwestern Ontario
At the Conference Executive meeting in November, 2016 the Executive of the Conference of Manitoba & Northwestern Ontario approved the expansion of the Effective Leadership and Healthy Pastoral Relationships (ELHPR) project in our Conference as of January 1, 2017. This expansion of responsibilities will include what was known as the Joint Needs Assessment (JNAC) process as well as the Joint Search (JSC) process.  Briefly what this means is that the process and documents associated with needs assessment has undergone some revision and will be resourced by members of the Conference Settlement Commission, not the Presbytery Pastoral Relations Committees as was the case in the past. The details of these revisions is outlined in a Power Point presentation which has been made available to Presbytery Pastoral Relations Conveners and will be/is posted on the Conference website along with other resources to be used in the newly revised processes. Because some Pastoral Charges had begun JNAC work in the old system, the Settlement Commission determined that any JNAC processes that were complete and ready for next steps could be approved by the Presbyteries up until January 31, 2017. Any processes just beginning or ongoing beyond January 31, 2017, would be resourced by the Settlement Commission, using the new process. The Settlement Commission also continues to resource the search processes with a few changes to that system as well effective immediately.  Patience during this time of transition would be greatly appreciated.  Questions can be directed to the Conference Personnel Minister, Judy Hare ( or any member of the Conference Settlement Commission.
