In 2014, the Conference Justice Global Relations & Public Witness Committee (JGRPW) was tasked with administering a Refugee Fund, gifted to the Conference by Trinity United Church Brandon following the closure of their Refugee Account. Trinity United generously provided money from their fund to be available to other congregations for their refugee sponsorships. The JGRPW Committee is pleased to report that ten congregations from this Conference received grants of $1,000.00 each to help in their sponsorship initiatives thanks the generosity of Trinity United Church, Brandon. (Note: the fund is now depleted)
The JGRPW Committee invited the recipients of these grants to write an article highlighting their experience of sponsorship. Over the next few weeks, one of these articles will be featured in our Weekly News.
It is the Committee’s hope that these stories will inspire your congregation to consider sponsoring a refugee family. Or, perhaps you’d like to help replenish the Conference Refugee Fund with a financial donation so other congregations might benefit from a grant. Cheques are to be made payable to the Conference of Manitoba & Northwestern Ontario, (1622B St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3W7) Please mark “Refugee Fund” on your cheque. Tax deductible receipts will be issued to individuals who make a donation.
