Visit Israel & Palestine

You are invited on a trip to visit Israel and Palestine in February, 2016.  Anticipated cost is between $2,600 and $3,000 plus airfare.  The trip will include visits to key holy sites and meeting people who live in Palestine and Israel.  Leadership will be offered by Kathy Bergen and Rev. Nepal Earthquake Appeal

The United Church is appealing for donations for Nepal Earthquake Relief in response to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the south Asian country on April 24 and a second, 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck May 12.  As of September 2015, the United Church has received over 3,400 donations to support partner work in Nepal, for a total over $840,000.  Read more . . .
 



Academic Awards and Scholarships Sub-Committee

 

This committee awards grants and scholarships for theological and academic work, including the McGeachy Scholarship. They are seeking one or two people with the skills and experience to assess the merit of the various applications.  Read more . . .
 



International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed on October 17 since 1993, when the United Nations General Assembly designated this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries.  Read more . . .

It will soon be in the mail to every congregation!  Attached here are the Program Guide and the Resource Kit.
 
In addition to the Resource Kit, containing all the resources to carry out a Congregational Giving Program, further support materials will be posted as they are prepared – digital slides for each Sunday; bulletin inserts for each Sunday – black and white as well as colour, etc.  If you have an idea for a
resource, let Congregational Giving & Stewardship know.  They will create and post it.

Everyone is invited to attend a special Stewardship Workshop being held on November 13 and 14 at Westworth United Church (1750 Grosvenor Ave., Winnipeg). 

 

  • Learn to tell your story through narrative budgets
  • Adopt stewardship in worship, learning and serving
  • Complete the circle of stewardship with thanksgiving
     

Sessions will include: Church Treasurer 101; Year-Round Stewardship; The Narrative Budget; Giving as a Spiritual Practice.

The United Church Urges Canada to Sponsor Syrian Refugees

The United Church of Canada extends its deepest condolences to those mourning the tragic deaths of Syrian refugees Aylan Kurdi (three years old), his brother Galip (five years old), and their mother, Reham. We pray also for the thousands of others from various countries who have also died or lost relatives as they risked their lives in search of safe haven on distant shores, including Canada.  Read more . . .
