KaBOOM!, Blue Shield, and the Oakland community work together to build a new playground at Yu Ming
After months of planning and hundreds of volunteers coming together for a community build day, Yu Ming has a beautiful, new and improved play space for its students at our lower school campus. On July 18, 200 volunteers from Blue Shield of California, Yu Ming, and the local community transformed an old playground into a student-designed, modern play space in just one day.
Physical play for all students is important to us, and having an updated play space had been long overdue. Surface cracks and non-working structures had been roped off and deteriorating the past couple of years. Fortunately, with the timely partnership of the local Blue Shield of California and national non-profit KaBOOM!, a new play space was made possible. Physical activity amplifies the ability to learn a new language. Consequently, having a safe, modern play space is critical for fully engaging students’ minds. Thanks to these partners and volunteers, over the lifetime of the new play space, thousands of children will have access to and be able enjoy this modern and joyful place to play.
