Atlanta, Georgia -- On Monday, September 24th at 3:00 p.m., AALAC will unveil its Vote For Our Future billboard, which will be displayed on I-85 between Beaver Ruin Rd. and Steve Reynolds Parkway.

Approximately 200,000 people will view the billboard each day.

The billboard ad will be up for a month starting September 24th in two different locations on I-85 in Gwinnett County.  Highway I-85 is the major highway going through Gwinnett, which is one of the continuously fastest growing counties in the country and home to the largest Asian-American population in Georgia.

“The South experienced the fastest Asian population growth in the country and Georgia and Gwinnett County in particular have been the locus of that growth,” said Helen Ho, Executive Director for AALAC.  225,489 Gwinnett residents are Asian Americans, which make up almost 11% of the entire county population and 28% of Georgia’s total Asian American population.  “Asian Americans are teachers, corporate executives, business owners and students.  We are major drivers of economic and social growth in Gwinnett County.  AALAC wants to remind our community members to take greater ownership of where they live by exercising their right to vote,” said Ho.

In August, AALAC held a casting call and photo shoot for Asian American, Pacific Islander and Asian-ethnic refugee children that wanted to be the “face” of our billboard campaign.  From approximately 25 children, 3 were selected for the billboard.  Victor Lee of Dream Photography Studios provided professional photography and CBS Outdoors assisted with billboard design.

“We are calling our 2012 voter engagement campaign ‘Vote For Our Future’ to remind parents and others that their vote will determine the future of their children, and the collective future of everyone living in our state.  We also want to encourage first generation immigrant citizens to be role models for their children by voting,” said Ho.
