#GivingTuesday - EFLRP Needs Your Support to Advocate for Frail Older New Yorkers and People with Disabilities

#GivingTuesday is coming up on November 29th.  This Thanksgiving, while our nation is in the midst of turmoil and division, we are especially grateful for the strength of our families and communities.  We think of the challenges so many people face - challenges of aging, of chronic illness, of disability - all of which are more difficult for those who are poor.

NYLAG’s Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program provides a lifeline for 1,700 Holocaust survivors and other struggling New Yorkers every year.  By sharing its expertise with thousands of professionals, EFLRP helps many more fragile New Yorkers. We ask for your help to support the vital services we provide:
  • EFLRP advocates to bring people home from nursing homes with vital Medicaid home care.
  • EFLRP fights for adequate hours of Medicaid home care from Managed Long Term Care plans and defends members against threatened reductions.
  • EFLRP helps transition individuals from the expanded Medicaid eligibility under the Affordable Care Act to the more restrictive rules of regular Medicaid when they become eligible for Medicare. EFLRP advocates for better procedures to prevent disruption of services in this transition – and will fight with other advocates to protect the ACA.
  • EFLRP uses sophisticated strategies to reduce the high out-of-pocket costs of Medicare.
  • EFLRP conducts legal education programs and coaches professionals one-on-one to understand the complex rules of Medicaid and Medicare. View our online webinars on Medicare and Medicaid recorded this year, and our information about the new procedures for Immediate Need Medicaid.
Our website, www.NYHealthAccess.org, maintained with The Legal Aid Society and Empire Justice Center—had 2,740,000 views and downloads last year. Articles include news updates on MLTC and FIDA, Supplemental Needs Trusts, the impact of Holocaust restitution on Medicaid, immigrant Medicaid eligibility, the Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), Medicare Savings Programs, and much more.

Our grants only partly support  the work we do for Holocaust survivors and other seniors and people with chronic disabilities.  We ask for your support to help us meet the crushing demand for our services.
