Seed Quality Update

You will be relieved to  know that this season germination results are much better than expected. Overall the average germination for most of the province is coming in well over the minimum grade standard of 85%.
However,  there are several regions  that had poor harvest conditions and early killing frosts.
We are seeing frost damaged seed from the Central and Northeast regions of Alberta as well as the Peace Country.  The damage  has had a detrimental effect in oats, wheat and barley samples. Our general rule here is to remark on our reports of analysis that X% has been affected by frost. The higher the percentage the more prone the sample is to further decay and deterioration.

Stickers have never been so much fun!

Winnie Lange is no stranger to our laboratory.  We always look forward to her visits on the occasional days that she comes in with mom Dr. Kim Kenward, our Research and Development Manager. Winnie can always be relied upon for a special piece of art work, a story or a good movie which she brings along to keep to herself occupied. On this particular day Winnie couldn’t resist helping out the client services group, Barry Little and Susan Dobie.  With a page of stickers and a handful of sample bags Winnie set to attaching pretty circles to the bags. We want to acknowledge Winnies' contribution as she certainly helped us all that day. She also proved that she can multi task at such a tender age by watching a movie at the same time.

Thanks Winnie !
