Little Black Shadows

There are only 11 performances left of this world premiere, written by Kemp Powers and directed by May Adrales, playing through April 29 as part of the Pacific Playwrights Festival at South Coast Repertory, Costa Mesa, CA.

The LA TIMES called it, "...visually arresting" and the OC register says, "...the “Black Shadows” script teem[s] with psychological complexity...director May Adrales and her design team create visual and aural layers that enhance and magnify Powers’ themes...but the crowning touches of SCR’s staging are the one-two punch of Charles Coes and Nathan A. Roberts’ sound design and original music and Hana S. Kim’s puppet designs and projections."

"The six performances are immaculate...the most commanding portrayal is rendered by Mark Doerr as the cruel father seeking to "make a man" out of his teen-age son (Daniel Bellusci), who prefers flute playing to hunting. Doerr paints an indelible portrait of a self-made successful landowner disappointed in the boy's lackadaisical nature, while Bellusci is quite convincing as the "different" young man chafing under his father's authority."
- Tom Titus, LA TIMES
