Off the Streets

The happy tale of Shoebox

Fifteen-week-old Shoebox was found inside a box during a rain storm by a staff member at a vet partner. He had roundworms and was a bit anemic, but recovered quickly in an ACR foster home. After vaccinations, neutering and a little confidence-building, he was adopted. With a face like that, no surprise there!

Thank you for helping us raise $63,000 at the STWM!

On October 21, 45 ACR supporters participated in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon
. We had two marathoners, 11 half marathoners and 32 5K'ers. It was a chilly morning with clear skies; beautiful for a run or walk. Everyone was in high spirits and had a great time.

At the end of the day, we had much to be grateful for. The amazing $63,000 raised will be spent on improving the health and well-being of homeless and vulnerable community cats. ACR is immensely thankful to all of the generous donors who sponsored members of Team ACR.

Thank you James L. for matching donations up to $25,000—you are amazing! Thank you to Dawn H. for designing and printing our team shirts! Thank you to all the volunteers who contributed their time to make it all possible!

We are looking forward to 2019 when ACR will join the STWM for the fifth time! See you next year!

Coronavirus: What you need to know

Learn about this common feline viral infection

Some perfectly wonderful cats are overlooked by potential adopters just because they are little bit different or have medical problems that sound scary and intimidating. For that reason, we’ve devised this quick fact sheet to help you better understand coronavirus, a prevalent virus among colony and shelter cats.

Check out the Quick Coronavirus Fact Sheet
October by the numbers:

76 adults, 15 seniors (over 10 years) and 42 kittens (under six months) in ACR foster homes

72 vet appointments

42 requests for help from the public via our feral/stray line (concerning, on average, one to five cats per call)

23 lucky cats went off to their forever homes

Adopt me: Spot

See Spot's Spot!

Rescued from a backyard colony in Scarborough, Spot is about to turn nine, and hoping to do so in her forever home. As a former community cat, Spot needs a patient and loving home, where her people are okay with her hiding out in her den for most of the day, but then coming out to demand pets when she feels like it.

Have a few hours per week to help monitor our Feral/Stray Line?

ACR's Feral/Stray Line helps members of the community deal with sick, lost, abandoned, pregnant and injured cats and kittens through education, referral and/or direct action. We need an organized and dependable cat lover who can monitor the email account one day a week, documenting requests for help and coordinating communications between resources as needed.
