Off the Streets

A happy ending for this brother and sister

Dana and Eric are four-month-old siblings who were trapped at a colony near Islington and the Queensway. At their volunteer host's house, the frightened kittens met a friendly "uncle" cat, who helped them get over their anxiety. These newly confident housecats will be up for adoption in September.

In more news: two cats and 12 kittens are also off the street
August by the numbers:

71 adults, 12 seniors (over 10 years) and 50 kittens (under six months) in ACR foster homes

65 vet appointments

46 requests for help from the public via our feral/stray line (concerning, on average, one to five cats per call)

41 lucky cats went off to their forever homes

Happy Tail: Chloe

"Fur like a cloud"

Chloe came to ACR after she was abandoned at a vet with a uterine infection, weighing less than three kilos. In a wonderful twist, she ended up with Jacquelyn, an ACR foster who had been looking for the right cat to adopt. Chloe's zany personality along with her tufts of fuzzy feet fur were irresistible.

When the neighbours make a mess
meet Rooster one of the Leaside residents
One of ACR's newest colonies is Leaside, which has nine cats. The colony has seven regular and two back-up feeders who have been shown how to put out food and water properly so neighbours don't complain. However, there are a few non-ACR people who are just dumping food on the ground, which attracts other wildlife and puts the cats at risk. Sometimes people are a bigger problem than the cats!
