La Bodega Wine Club

all about your february wine!

A Little Bit of Italy

This is a chilly time of the year, so we're featuring two organic Chiantis to keep you feeling warm and cozy. Chianti comes from the beautiful region of Tuscany in Central Italy. To be called Chianti under the DOCG's naming designations, the wine must contain at least 80% of the Sangiovese grape.

If you are a white wine lover, we are offering the uncommon aromatic varietal, Kerner, as our First DibsPacherhof Kerner comes from the German-speaking part of Northern Italy. We're offering this to club members only for $28.75, shelf price will be $31.95.

If you enjoy your club wines, extra bottles are available to purchase each month for 10% off!

If you would like to utilize our curbside pick-up option for your club at Metro, please call us at 907-569-3800 [ext. 1] to coordinate. We will get your name and pull your items. To use this option, the name on the ID must match the name of the person on the club list.

pizzolato Chianti

The Boss of the Red Sauce

Italy is probably most famous for their Chianti wines, which are integral to their cuisine. Pictured to the right is the traditional Italian bottle, called a fiasco. Italy moved away from using these bottles in the late 20th century. La Cantina Pizzolato has been certified-organic since 1991, and produces wines in Tuscany and Veneto.

This young and fresh Chianti was aged for only 3 months! Because of its youth, it retains fruiter characteristics. On the nose, aromas of raspberry, strawberry, rose, and mushrooms with a crisp, fruity full body and a peppery finish.

Chianti is made to pair with food. It shines with red sauces and fattier dishes. Try this with pizza, spaghetti bolognese, or salsa verde chicken.

Fattoria di Romignano Chianti Riserva

In Vino Veritas

We have another Chianti for you, but this one is a Riserva. Under the strict DOCG rules in Italy, a Riserva must be aged for 2 years. This wine was aged for 1 year in oak barrels and 1 year in the bottle, which leads to an earthier wine. The Rossi family has been producing wine at Fattoria di Romignano since the early 1900's, and they've truly mastered the art of making great organic Chianti.

This wine opens with aromas of red fruit, baking spice, and vanilla. It's full-bodied, very dry, and tannic, while retaining a velvety texture. The savory palate also has notes of black cherry, raspberry, and cloves.

Chianti Riserva is perfect for rich, red meat dishes. It pairs well with roasted
lamb with rosemary, steak or game meat, or a savory sage and lentil dish.
