Revised Covid Testing Information from 11th January 2022
|
|
|
About 1 in 3 people with Covid-19 do not have symptoms but can still infect others. Rapid testing helps to check if someone has Covid-19. If students test positive and self-isolate, it helps stop the virus spreading.
There are different tests you can get to check if you have coronavirus.
The 2 main tests are:
PCR tests – mainly for people with symptoms, they're sent to a lab to be checked, and
Rapid Lateral Flow tests – only for people who do not have symptoms, they give a quick result using a device similar to a pregnancy test.
You should also do daily rapid tests (1 a day for 7 days) if you've been in contact with someone with COVID-19 and are either:
- fully vaccinated
- under 18 years and 6 months old
“The advice for people who have a positive lateral flow device (LFD) test result has changed. You are no longer required to have a follow-up polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and you should stay at home and self-isolate immediately if you test positive on a LFD”
The new measures across England will see asymptomatic people who test positive using a home lateral flow kit no longer require a confirmatory PCR test, but go straight into isolation.
People who have a positive LFD test result should only have a follow-up PCR test if:
- they wish to claim the Test and Trace Support Payment.
- they have a health condition that means they may be suitable for new coronavirus (COVID-19) treatments.
- they are taking LFD tests as part of research or surveillance programmes, and the programme asks them to do so.
- they have a positive day 2 LFD test after arriving in England.
Symptoms
The main symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of any of the following:
- a new continuous cough
- a high temperature
- a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
If you develop symptoms you should still arrange for a PCR test asap, as your symptoms may not be Covid-19.
For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness. However, if you have any of the symptoms listed above, even if your symptoms are mild, stay at home and arrange to have a test. You do not need to take a PCR test if you have already taken an LFD test and the result was positive.
|
|
|
If you have previously received a positive COVID-19 test result, you are advised not to take another PCR test within 90 days of this result unless you develop any new main symptoms of COVID-19.
If you are fully vaccinated or aged under 18 years, and you live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, you are not legally required to self-isolate. You are also not legally required to self-isolate if you have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial or you are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons.
LFD tests are very good at identifying people who have high levels of coronavirus and are most likely to pass on infection to others, even if you do not have symptoms. You are therefore strongly advised to take daily LFD tests during the period you are at highest risk of becoming infected yourself, and to test twice weekly as requested.

Have your circumstances changed recently?

Parents claiming some benefits can claim free school meals for any of their children who are registered at a Staffordshire school and who would normally be at school at lunch time. School meals are a good way to ensure that your child eats well at lunchtime and you can save yourself time and money.
Even if you don't want your children to have the meals, claiming them helps their school. The more eligible parents who claim meals, the more funding the school receives.
The phone number for the free school entitlement checking service team has changed. Should you need to contact them regarding any claims queries, their number is now 0300 111 8007 option 3, then option 2
