Today is World Rivers Day and in celebration the Sonic Territories: Wambuul creative team of Kim V. Goldsmith, Milena Sallustio, Rob Salt and Suzie Foran have created the Wambuul bila soundtrack based on field recordings of the river, in an area from Burrendong Dam above Wellington, through Dubbo to Narromine—10 sites in all. Each artist has written a personal response to the river, recording it as spoken word and these recordings have been woven into the surface and sub-surface sounds of the river and the structures designed to contain and control it.
The ecoPULSE.art website now has Accessibility Tool function and a soundwave video has been created of the Wambuul bila soundtrack to ensure those who are d/Deaf can still experience the work. The video has word cues throughout it, that correlate with the text of each artist's spoken word piece.
Sonic Territories: Wambuul is a multi-staged creative project consisting of storytelling, community events and the creation of art, centred on the Wambuul/ Macquarie River. We're collecting stories of the river as we go, with everyone invited to contribute, sharing our collective hopes about the future of the river in the process. We invite you explore those stories generously shared with us so far.
