July 2022

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED THIS WEEK

It's a testament to the level of ecoPULSE project activity that this monthly update is very late. Over the past couple of months, there have been exhibitions, soundwalks, artist talks, writings, and a new project to get going. On top of that, I've been involved in the Statewide Regional Futures project that's included residencies at Wellington Caves and the Mid North Coast, a cross-region conversation with three other artists, as well as participating in a series of online events.

Sonic Territories: Wambuul is the new project that launched on 1 July—a river stories project celebrating the Wambuul/ Macquarie River, from Wellington to Narromine. The first part of this pilot project is to bring another local artist on board, joining me and Dubbo filmmaker/visual artist, Milena Sallustio in an open-air lab on the river, where we'll be creatively ideating how to make this project really sing. We received a Country Arts Support Program (CASP) grant to get things started and a third artist will be announced in early August...but we really need your support to do more.

We need your support before the end of this week

The 12-month Australian Cultural Fund campaign I've been running to support ecoPULSE projects comes to a close at the end of July. So, I have ONE MORE WEEK to raise $200 that will pay for more artist hours in the early stages of the Sonic Territories: Wambuul project. If I could ask 10 ecoPULSE supporters to donate $20 (it's tax-deductible), we'll manage that. Anything above that will allow us to gather even more stories from the community—something that will take hours of time over several months. All you need to do is click the link below and it'll take you straight to the ACF campaign page.

As always, your support for ecoPULSE projects is greatly appreciated.

LAST WEEK OF MOSSES + MARSHES

MOSSES AND MARSHES moved to the Window on the Wetlands (WOW) Centre at Warren earlier this month, where the video and sound works are being played in the Visitor Information Centre. Considered a gateway to the Macquarie Marshes, the WOW Centre venue offers a chance for the works to be experienced by a broad cross-section of visitors to the region as well as locals. This is the fifth showing of MOSSES AND MARSHES since Andrew Howe debuted the works in Oswestry (UK), in October last year. The WOW Centre exhibition wraps up on 29 July.

We opened in Warren with a community event on 2 July that included a sound walk of Tiger Bay, an artist talk, and opening drinks. It was great to see so many ecoPULSE supporters there on the day. The sound walk was the highlight of the afternoon, with eight enthusiastic participants enjoying a sonic sample of a hidden wetland world. There's a link below to more about the sound walk.

The soundwalk experience certainly put me in country, utilising the underrated sense of hearing and hugely contributing to my experience of the place, in ways I hadn’t thought of or felt previously. - Jude Fleming, Warren

Thanks to RiverSmart for supporting the opening event and the exhibition at Warren. The community event was supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.

INHALARE WRAP

The 12 artist exhibition wrapped up at SPACE in Coonabarabran in mid-June with 84% of respondents to the in-gallery survey saying accessibility elements allowed for greater connection with the artworks.

A POST-CARBON WORLD

One of 29 NSW regional artists commissioned to explore what the future of the regions might be like, Kim V. Goldsmith has been documenting her time at Wellington Caves and on the Mid-North Coast as part of Stage 1 of the project.

ecoPULSE.art projects are supported by the artists who make our projects possible, regional arts development organisations, such as Orana Arts and Outback Arts, the exhibition venues who provide such great support for the finished works and public events, and funding bodies including the NSW Government through Create NSW, and the Australian Government through initiatives such as the Regional Arts Fund through Regional Arts NSW. We also crowdfund through the Australian Cultural Fund.
