Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc.

Report from the President One Year Later

Aloha from the beautiful island of Hawaii, the site of the 36th PNAA Annual National Convention! Warm congratulations and sincere thank you to the Philippine Nurses Association of Hawaii (PNAH), for their unprecedented hospitality and exceptional teamwork in hosting the National Convention. Our convention theme: Transforming Nursing Through Leadership and Empowerment, represented PNAA’s shared vision and collaboration among chapters and with other professional organizations in the Campaign for Action for the Future of Nursing.

We celebrated our annual event by sharing PNAA’s accomplishments and visions for the future. During the 36th National Convention, we continued to focus on promoting nursing excellence, through education, research, professional networking and recognition of nursing achievements. Our program initiatives for the year were focused on strengthening PNAA’s sustainability and taking actions toward the future of nursing through the involvement of new generation of nurses and strengthening the organization’s finances, membership and leadership .

With great pride, I thank the PNAA Executive Board, Committee Chairs, Chapter Presidents, PNAA leaders and colleagues, who worked with me and shared a common vision in leading, empowering and transforming nursing by bringing PNAA to greater heights. We did it and will continue to Lead, Empower and Transform healthcare through nursing!

I am very pleased to share the attached PNAA Highlights presented at the General Assembly on July 25, 2015. This report contains Part 1 of 2 parts. Part 2 will include RVP and Committee Reports and Summary of Comments from the General Assembly. PNAA President's Report to the General Assembly 7-25-2015.pdf

PNAA Picnic Day

Tessie Porciuncula, PNASD Board Member

PNAHA always put out the best. Our final fellowship was the picnic at the Ala Moana Park by the beach. Assorted Filipino foods were served and mostly Ilocano dishes to boot. It was a treat for the attendees to taste a variety of vegetables dishes. We thank the PNAH for a great job with the convention and their unending hospitality. Thank you to Dorothy Brown, our photographer and PNASD Parliamentarian for all the beautiful pictures, our memories of the wonderful, exciting 2015 PNAA Hawaii National Convention.
See you all in Scottsdale, Arizona, on April 15-16, for the 2016 PNAA Western Region Conference and Leadership Institute!

3rd Semi-Annual Medical Device Packaging Conference

September 24-25, 2015

On Friday, September 25 at 8:45, PNASD will be participating in the  SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS: ANSWERING TO THE HEALTHCARE PROVIDER CONCERNS.
As the healthcare landscape navigates towards a patient-centric driven industry, it is more important than ever that medical device manufacturers produce products that fit seamlessly into this model. Oftentimes the deciding factor for devices selected ends with the nurse or clinician choosing the most appropriate product for the patient. Ease-of-use, sterilization abilities and historical success rates are just a few examples of the elements customers evaluate in choosing a medical device. By inviting nurses and other clinicians to lead small groups and analyze packaging from medical devices provided by conference attendees, engineers will have the unique and valuable opportunity to receive first-hand feedback from healthcare providers.

Hello Current Members of PNASD, we are issuing you a challenge!

This year of 2015, the PNASD is striving to gain at least 50 new members into the PNASD before the end of this year.

We are working toward our Association’s transition into a 503c tax status for our San Diego Chapter.   The PNASD accepts members who are of any race, color, religion, creed, gender, national origin, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.

We are strongly encouraging each of you to reach out to a minimum of TWO:

  • Both non-Filipino and Filipino nurses
  • LVN – ADN  – BSN – MSN – Ph.D. – DNP status
  • Any field of nursing practice
  • Anywhere in San Diego County

Provide them a hard copy membership form or this PNASD website link http://www.pnasd.org/Membership%20Application%20Brochure%202015.pdf and encourage them to join.

We want to see an increased number of members and for all members to volunteer, attend business meetings, join committees, and attend our functions throughout the year.

Please keep track of what nurses you refer.  A special treat will be given to the current PNASD member who recruits the most new members!

Thank you to everyone,
