Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves - slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. Live the actual moment. Only this moment is life.Thich Nhat Hanh

Bonjour from Paris where I'm penning this seasonal love note while burning a rose candle and sipping rose mint tea with a vase of fragrant pink peonies in view.

We're nearly half-way through 2013 and about to launch into sultry sum, sum, summertime. Think weekend jaunts to the beach, yoga outdoors, and succulent fresh fruit from farmers' markets. Oh, and June also happens to include . . . my big 4.0. {gasp!} when I had hoped to be in contemplative meditation at Plum Village. However, they are not accepting visitors at the moment so I'm still pondering the parfait way to spend the day.

Last month I completed my Master's of Social Work, celebrated by attending a silent meditation retreat and then dashed off to Paris for six weeks of writing and leading retreats. My second Art, Yoga + Shopping retreat ended Sunday and I've been slowing, gallivanting, and writing ever since. My days begin with a yummy yoga practice mainly to The Great Gatsby soundtrack while savoring a pot of jasmine tea. Ommmmmm

Note the carefully chosen word "savor." Note the book Savor: Mindful Eating, Mindful Life in the above photo AND our summer online book club pick. This is one shining characteristic that draws me to French culture. There is a sort of savoring life that I personally struggle against in DC. It's no lack of trying, but rather a nasty habit. Here I feel a desperate need to stop, drop, and savor. Versus eating on-the-go. Texting while walking or waiting in line. Rushing from appointment to appointment. Overeating out of exhaustion and greed {oh, just one more thin mint!}. Scrolling aimlessly through websites because I'm in front of the screen and too tired to step away. Resonate?

One of my main intentions during my time here {and beyond} is to savor. Savor experiences. Savor connections with retreaters. Savor dedicated writing space. Savor simple beauty. Savor grand art {bonjour Monet}. Savor the opportunity to create new habits.

An insightful passage highlighted in Savor speaks to this:

"There is a Zen story about a man and a horse. The horse is galloping quickly, and it appears that the rider is urgently heading somewhere important. A bystander along the road calls out, “Where are you going?” and the rider replies, “I don’t know! Ask the horse!” This is also our life story."

The Zen story is a beautiful reminder to consciously steer our own horse {life} versus letting it race ahead without noticing what's happening within, without, and around us. Won't you join me in savoring?

The next few months are filled with plans to savor a sense of freedom sans grad school paper deadlines. Through mid-November I'll be leading Tranquility Summer Camp, attending WDS in Portland, working on my next book {a Tranquility du Jour Anthology}, taking Tranquil Space far and wide by crisscrossing across North America on a Tranquilologie book tour {filled with art by Mary Catherine Starr}, and going through a vegan academy in NYC to deepen my work for the animals.

I hope our paths will cross and invite you to follow this ongoing tranquility journey on my blog and podcast, Tranquility du JourWishing you a savor-filled day of connecting to all five senses. Deeply. Wholeheartedly. Compassionately. You deserve it. And so does your body and mind.
