end o summer

Life is a process of becoming.
A combination of states we have to go through.
Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it.
This is a kind of death.

                                                                   - Anais Nin

Bonjour from the woods. I'm here to bask in a few days of finishing projects in nature before returning to school and a 20-hour per week internship. The sounds and serenity of the woods offer just what the doctor ordered. My summer has been a whirlwind of changes, travels, and out of routine experiences. From France retreats to Portland, from Tranquility Summer Camp to two animal rights conferences, from Oklahoma to Vegas, this summer has offered up ongoing chances to become more and more of who I am and who I want to become.

Since completing my spring semester of MSW studies and going on semi-sabbatical from studio management, I have been in a continual state of going with the flow and working to surrender attachment to the way things were. The above quote by Anais Nin serves as the perfect reminder to embrace change and all the struggles that go with it. Everywhere I look there seems to be heaps of transition happening and I presume you are no exception. Either way we are transitioning from summertime to a slowing down in fall and continue to evolve with exposure to new ways of thinking and being.

Please join moi on this journey of evolution through these exciting offerings o' tranquility:

1. E-courses = 4-week Tranquility Project e-course begins October 10 and outlines ways to live life fully, with tranquility, and a dash of flair. The four sessions focus on my favorite tranquility tools and are broken out into mind, body, soul, and a combo module. Two of my ecourses are ongoing, and you can start anytime: Creative and Conscious Business and Tranquil Space Lifestyle. The other fab e-courses are released on a schedule. Details here

2. Events in DC = weekly yoga + meditation classes, a 3-week living your yoga series, a 7-week creativity circle series, and an urban women's retreat. Details here.

3. Yoga + Art Retreats = Indulge in yoga, goal setting, meditation, and creative play at a cozy cabin in West Virginia, at Luxembourg gardens in Paris, or at a spacious villa in Provence. Details here.

4. Seasonal Podcast = Join me for a seasonal one-hour seasonal podcast from the comfort of your own home with your journal, cup of tea, and pen in hand. Details here

5. On the Road = Join me in India this fall and Montreal in March. Details on these workshops and retreats.

I have a few new projects up my sleeve that I look forward to unveiling shortly. In the interim I hope to see you at one of the above gatherings and wish you moments of deep breathing with a mason jar of iced peach tea in hand as we tie a bow around summertime.

Breakfast at TranquiliT

Our fall collection will be online by late September and features new colors café, pink pearl, holly, and aubergine. Stay tuned for a sneak peek on the blog after our September 7 fall photo shoot. Watch for our beloved staples along with an assortment of new designs to highlight your signature style.

Also, we'll be showcasing (and I'm speaking) at DC's Greenfestival September 29 and 30. Please swing by our booth to say "bonjour."

Finally, save the date for Saturday, October 20 10-2 chez moi. Over the moon to announce my very first sustainable pop up shop coined Breakfast at TranquiliT. I wanted to create a boutique-like offering in the comfort of my tiny pink palace to celebrate our 10 years and, thus, a sustainable pop up shop was born. You'll find a few of my one of a kind upcycled pieces, lots of amazing vintage and reclaimed finds from my summer travels, and an assortment of our versatile locally sewn fall collection. As a proud member of 1% for the Planet, a portion of proceeds will benefit organizations that support the environment, animals, and women's creativity.

artistic play

art collage

While in Oklahoma last week, mama and I were crafting machines. From bunting to apple picking, crocheting granny squares to embroidering tea towels, canning to making jewelry from old doilies, the adventures were non-stop. Here are a few great resources for you to launch your own crafting adventures:

There are so many mediums to explore. Over Labor Day weekend I'm taking an iPhoneography class and am excited to learn ways to capture more beauty from everyday life. I'm truly loving this beautiful reconnection to handmade and homemaking and it's been a big focus for moi this year. This fall an interview with Kate Payne, author of The Hip Girl's Guide to Homemaking, will be featured on Tranquility du Jour. Be prepared for home-based inspiration!

fave pose feature

Truth be told, legs up the wall is best done sans pink heels and actually against a wall (hence the pose name). It is my go to for jet lag, exhaustion, contemplation, and a dose of tranquility. Here's how you can incorporate into your day:

  1. Sit sideways against a wall and wiggle your hip to touch it.
  2. Come onto your back and swing your legs up the wall. If it feels too intense on your hammies with your bum touching the wall, push into the wall and scoot your hips a few inches further from the wall until you find your sweet spot.
  3. For variations, open your legs into a wide V or bend your knees and place the soles of your feet together.
  4. Close your eyes, rest your arms along the sides of the body or over your head reaching for opposite elbows (my favorite), and connect to your breath.
  5. Stay here 5 to 15 minutes and bask in bliss.

keep calm and love pigs

It's no secret I'm pig obsessed and here's a little peek behind the passion. On September 19 I'm hosting Pigs Animal Sanctuary's 20th Anniversary Celebration in Washington, DC. We'll have an inspiring keynote by Victoria Moran along with online silent auction items from Vaute CoutureTeaism, and more. S'il vous plaît consider supporting in person or in spirit. Oh, and the cherry on top, the first 50 people to arrive will receive a handmade lavender-scented pig soap!

One of the main sections of Tranquilologie focuses on do-gooding each month. The overarching premise is finding a passion that resonates with you and devoting a portion of time, energy, and/or money toward it. There are so many deserving issues out there and I encourage you to hone in on one (or more) that you would like to serve. Studies show that helping others makes us happier. What small steps can you take today to become happier and make a difference?
